Veteran Telugu Desam Party leader MVVS Murthy died in a car crash in the US on Wednesday. The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council member died along with three others when their vehicle collided with a truck on a highway near Alaska.
He was 76.

Dr.M.V.V.S.Murthi is a multifaceted personality imbibing the qualities of an industrialist, educationist, politician and philanthropist with social responsibility. After a brief stint as Advocate in the High court of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, he moved on to business and established Visakha Bottling Company (VBC) in 1967 with a modest investment. Because of his hard work and meticulous planning, the VBC was a phenomenal success in the manufacturing of soft drinks and earned the name of Gold Spot Murthi. He continued to contribute his might for rapid industrialization of Andhra Pradesh. In recognition to his services, Andhra Pradesh chapter of Commerce & Industry has elected him as its President in 1980.

On the political front he is an important founder member of the regional party, Telugudesam Party founded by Late Sri N.T. Rama Rao.

To realize his dream of providing quality in Technical and Higher education, he ventured to start Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) in the year 1980.
